Dr. Sandra Spivey is a native of Scottsboro,
Alabama. After graduating from Scottsboro High School in 1986, she continued
her education at Auburn University completing her Bachel or of Science in
Mathematics and English Secondary Education and her Masters in Mathematics
Education. She completed her Masters Certification in Educational
Administration and her Education Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership at
Auburn University Montgomery, then went on to complete her Doctorate in
Educational Leadership at Auburn University in 2004.
Dr. Spivey served as a High School Math Teacher for
8 years (in the Phenix City and Alexander City School Systems) during which
time she also served for several years as a Cheerleading Coach and sponsor of
various clubs and programs. She was a High School Assistant Principal at
Benjamin Russell High School and within that same school system went on to
serve as the Principal of Alexander City Middle School and Benjamin Russell
High School before leaving Alexander City to serve as the Principal of Hoover
High School and the Director of Human Resources for Hoover City Schools. She
seized the opportunity to move back to North Alabama to be closer to her family
in 2007 when she accepted the position as Director of Secondary Education for
Madison County Schools. She remained there for 7 years before accepting a
position with the Alabama State Department of Education as a Regional Support
Coordinator.
While in Huntsville, she enjoyed serving as an Adjunct
Professor for Samford University for 7 years and mentoring aspiring school
leaders as they prepared to begin their journey as educational administrators,
and she was very involved in volunteering with Leadership Huntsville/Madison County after completing the flagship
program (Class 23) in 2010. She is now back home in Scottsboro where she has
served as the Superintendent of the Scottsboro City School System since January
of 2015. During the 2016-2017 program year, she is participating as a member of
Leadership Alabama - Class XXVII.
Sandra has always been involved in Church and
community activities as well as professional organizations as she works to make
learning and serving a part of life. While all of these activities have kept
her busy, she and her husband make time to enjoy hiking, traveling, and
spending time with family.
